Thrilled to announce...Celtic Adrenalin has reached NUMBER 2 on the World Music Charts on Ourstage.com! About 60% of the listeners were from the North America region and the remaining 40% worldwide!We are obviously THRILLED and this is more than we could have hoped for!

We are incredibly excited to be finalizing the music and getting ready for the Spring 2012 physical EP Release!

Debut EP ~ Spring 2012 Northern Hemisphere

It's official!

The Debut EP from Gavern will be officially released this Spring (or Autumn if you're in the Southern Hemisphere)

After a long 6 years (literally!) of "Collecting fragments of Sound & Emotion" the music is almost ready to be shared.

It will be released in a physical DigiPak and also made available through online retailers like Amazon & iTunes.

It's originally had the title of "Celtic Adrenalin EP" but this is no longer the case.

A new name, inspired by new fragments, and new songs has been chosen

We can divulge too much at this time, however what we can say is this:

There is a common 'thread' throughout the songs on the EP, you could even call it a "mini-album" because it will contain more songs than a regular EP, yet less than a "traditional" album!

The thread is "Modern Celtic" and the instrumentation used includes Harps, Pipes, Pizzicato, Violin, Grand Piano, Orchestral String Ensemble, Electric Cello, Bouzouki, various Basses, trumpet, flute and many more including a huge atmosphere of synths.

There is a lot of Artistry of Sound in the use of vocals, many yah-di-dins, hee-nah-nah, yahdee's, etc and of course signature vocal layering techniques.

That's all for now....

Celtic Adrenalin Chart History on Ourstage.com

Celtic Adrenalin was composed over a year ago. It had a working title of "Cool Adrenalin". The song became the signature piece that inspired the upcoming release of a physical EP digipak in 2012.
A few months later it was entered into the World Music Charts on Ourstage.com

So far the song reached it's peak at No.4 in the World Music Charts on Ourstage.com making it the second highest charting song of Gavern to date. "A Simple Way" by Gavern went to No.2 on the Indie Pop Charts on Ourstage.com in early 2009.

Celtic Adrenalin has made it to the Specialist Finals for Ourstage.com for this year. Out of the four songs ever entered by Gavern, it's the first song to have made it into the finals for the year.

No. 4 is higher than we would have ever hoped for because usually the charts are dominated by Pop songs and often pay very little heed to Ambient and World/New Age music. Also it's a first on Ourstage.com for a song with Irish Gaelic lyrics to reach such a height, being that most songs entered are sung in English.

Here's a snapshot of Celtic Adrenalin at it's highest peak so far.

We are very excited for the song and we are thrilled that's it's done and is doing so well.

Fragments Come Together...

Did an interview last week with The Celtic Music Fan and submitted some recent pictures. It will be published online soon! Link to follow.Rounded up about 5 songs to include on the Celtic Adrenalin EP for 2012. Might do some mixing and editing of the tracks. "Celtic Adrenalin Galaxy Mix" features a different intro and has a few more added guitar parts, also a creative use of "hypnotizing vocals" in the final chorus building up to a heavily layered climax. Currently still working on the arrangement for the acoustic version. We are happy with the "Celtic Adrenalin - Instrumental 7 Remix" and it's mastered and ready to go. Still deciding whether to use the Original Recording of "Galileo My Friend" as a b-side on the EP or to begin completion on a re-worked version, maybe by adding bass synchronization to the simple piano parts in the second segment - we will wait and see what the music wants! Brian will be designing the cover artwork for the DigiPak and pull out leaflet. I might put up a snippet of the acoustic version/Galaxy version online on SoundCloud, not sure but we will see, they will both be under 30s.More later...

An update:

So we have been busy, very busy and busy is good when it comes to music!

The song "Celtic Adrenalin" has been previewed for a while now on SoundCloud. It was the one song that got the best reviews and listens so far. It was an experiment of interlacing a traditional Celtic melody with a modern day feel and composing sounds that were carried by a chanting Gaelic vocal.

Well there's more... many versions of this song were shelved and worked on from time to time over the last year. The song began to want to be a spotlight on it's own but with sister pieces that expanded on the story, of the moment, of the song.

We are in the process of creating cover artwork for a Single release of this song. To date it will be the first physical single released. And...a instrumental remix of Celtic Adrenalin has just been completed. It's quite different from the original feel of the song, but has the same running beat and ends to a final climax of big sounds and melodic instruments in a hypnotic wave that would make even the most boring of individuals dance!

The theme of Celtic Adrenalin moves into modern. Remember the initial idea was to mix both old and new, with the intention of showing that echoes from the past can propel thoughts of the future. Inspiring, haunting, spiritual...

There will be 5 or 6 songs on the Single that will revolve around the Celtic Adrenalin theme, including the instrumental remix. People ask why do we spell "Adrenaline" like "Adrenalin", well it's the American spelling which we prefer the "look" of.

We are not able to put the entire song up here for a preview, but we will and can certainly put a wee snippet of it, while we work with licensing!

Mixing and Re-arranging and Arranging and Mixing...

I recently heard a snippet of a song a colleague of mine had been working on and I wanted to get involved right away! I wanted to help her create the finished song and the many remixes it deserves. I can't say the name of the song yet but... let me tell you it is one of the best creations we have worked on so far. It has a driving, moving, pulsing sound, wonderful big drums, gorgeous synth sounds, and outbursts of male sounds blended together with a beautiful female vocal chant. Her initial idea of building the song is what I tapped into right away, and I wanted to arrange it and add some overlapping percussion. I wish I could let you all listen to even a snippet from it but I can't yet...but hopefully soon!

Well we have all been rather busy here. I haven't been working on any new pieces. I've focused most of my time on doing the promotion for "Celtic Adrenalin" and "Self Realization". I will however say that there is an "edited" version of Celtic Adrenalin which also contains an alternate ending. I will make that version of the song available in the early Spring. We were delighted to receive an email from WGBH Boston, A Celtic Sojourn Radio asking us to send in a physical copy of Celtic Adrenalin for consideration for radio play. This radio station is also available as an app and we are quite pleased with the exposure it could bring us!

I've been working on this piece for quite some time and a found a bunch of piano loops (Loops contain simple melodies that can be worked on, added to or changed or even arpegiated) and I have a deep love for rolling Orchestra, anyway I wanted to try and create and arrange an orchestral piece that reflected my feelings. So I took these piano loops and worked on them, adding bits and pieces to each part, adjusting the melody by using the arpegiator and then I am able to covert each piano piece into a real instrument sound, so I used Cellos Legato, Cellos Staccato, Viola, Double Bass Pizzicato, Violin Pizzicato, Flute, Clarinet, English Horn and and Orchestral percussion kit and I finally created the song: Dancing on Planet X

At the moment I am working on some classical instrumentals and one new vocal song. I am very excited about the vocal song as I was able to get a beautiful quality reverb on the main vocal in Logic's Space Designer called "Upper Echelons". The vocal track is simply titled "Butterfly" and is a reflective song with a simple Piano Ballard and Cello. The classical instrumentals I am working on are created using Piano, Cello, Brass, Strings and Bells. I'll update as my progress moves along. Butterfly is a very different piece for me, and that is why I am so excited to share it.

I Recall
I Recall is about memory, how our senses can trigger a memory or thought from the past or even from the future. Memory not controlled by the concept of time but rather our ability to recall any given moment.

Voyager
Voyager is about taking a Tribal Space Journey into deep space, on your way to exploring new worlds and galaxies. Itʼs about mixing the old with the future, The Lord of The Rings with Star Wars and living in such a world of wonder.

Galileo (1564-1642) was the first astronomer to make full use of the telescope, observing the craters of the moon and the satellites of Jupiter. Galileo forced closed minded people to look outside of the box they lived in- I consider him a friend!

An Ordinary Day is about having a spiritual experience on a normal day. Itʼs about hearing echoes and voices and realizing that we are so much more than flesh and blood. Itʼs about reflecting on our inner and outer most being and making a loving connection with something other than what we can see, hear, smell or touch.

Iter Itineris (The Journey)
Iter Itineris is Latin for “The Journey” itʼs about the journey of life and itʼs about walking up the steps to enlightenment. Forgetting about what people say and becoming who you are, living who you are and realizing your power beyond the invisible! The chorus says “Nortiaʼs Domino (Beautiful Universe), Xiʼan Grias Omine (We are one with you). InEtruscan mythology, Nortia was the goddess of fate and chance. Domino is taken from Domine which means lord or master, I interpret it as “Universe”, Xiʼan means “Western Peace” Mount Ōmine (大峰山 Ōmine-san?), is a sacred mountain in Nara, Japan.

I only found this out after I had written these words, I had no idea what they meant and I thought I was making them up.

New Song: Voyager

A new song has been uploaded to Soundcloud.com

It's called Voyager. Voyager is an ambient song with blend of tribal and synth sounds. It's about mixing together time lines, past and future and taking a Voyage on a star ship into deep space and being on your way to discovering new worlds and galaxies. The feel of the song would be like joining the worlds of The Lord of The Rings and Star Wars.

When composing the song I used a blend of modern and tribal percussion with a "voyage like" synth as a backdrop. It also has an emotional vocal part which tries to express the feeling of embarking to unknown frontiers

The journey they take could also be one of self discovery. Perhaps they journey on knowing that they cannot return to earth. Perhaps they are in search of a new earth.

I have a love for composing music that is very atmospheric and blending different atmospheres together. The intention of the music is to provide a means of deep intuition and to create a heightened sense of awareness.
